Argentina Bags Bronze Medal In 2013 FIBA Americas With 103-93 Win Over Dominican Republic

scola campazzo postArgentina failed to defend half to halt several runs from Dominican Republic to escape with a hard-earned 103-93 win in the bronze-medal match on Wednesday night in Caracas.

Facundo Campazzo saved the best for last as he finished with 31 points to go along with 11 assists and four rebounds, while veteran power forward Luis Scola racked up 23 points, nine rebounds, and five assists for Argentina, which shot an impressive 60 percent from the field.

Juan Gutierrez also had a productive night with 17 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists, while Selim Safar and Marcos Delia added and 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Argentina took control in the opening period that ended with them on top 26-20 and then opened the second period with a 9-4 blast to build a 35-24 lead. However, Dominican Republic countered with a 10-0 run of their own to get back into the game, forcing a 45-45 standoff at the half.

The half-time break worked wonders for Argentina as they quickly regained control of the match. But unlike in the first half, the Argentines took care of their lead and resisted several comeback attempts from the Dominicans to score the win that bagged them the bronze medal.

James Martinez had a terrific performance in a losing effort for Dominican Republic as he finished with 17 points and 18 rebounds, while Edgar Sosa led the team in scoring with 20 points. Juan Coronado added 16 points and James Feldeine chipped in 14 points, but it was not enough to help Dominican Republic snatch the bronze.
